Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Johnny's priceless experience at the theatre

Cape Town is a place of overwhelming cultural differences in comparison to Connecticut. The music, food, and art are just a few examples of intense cultural differences. I went to the ArtsCape, a local theatre, last Thursday to see the musical Sound of Music. I do enjoy musicals so I entered the theatre at first with high expectations. Then realizing I had no idea how prominent theatre was here, I sunk my expectations and was really anxious for what I was about to see. The cast, pageantry, vocals, and music were of the caliber that could rival New York’s Broadway production. The overall experience absolutely blew my mind and exceeded any initial expectation I could have had. I would recommend a night out on the theatre to anyone who is planning to visit Cape Town. Tickets were affordable and the night was unforgettable.
Ticket to Sound of Music: R150 ($14)
Drinks and Food: R100 ($9.30)

Smile on our faces after the show: Priceless
Tina, Johnny & Jessica: Classy Theater Goers
