Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Emily W deciding to study abroad

Hi my name is Emily Walsh and I am a junior premed WGSS major.  Being a member of the women’s ice hockey team at UConn, I never dreamed of studying abroad, but when Marita brought up the idea, I couldn’t say no to an experience like this.  I didn’t really know much about it, but it sounded absolutely unreal so I talked to my coach/parents and made it happen.  I applied, got in, and then all of a sudden I was going to Cape Town.  At first I think I was most excited about the fact that it was going to be summer and I was going to get crazy tan for four months.  But as I read more about it, I couldn’t wait to experience all that is Cape Town and learn more about the history of the country. I also was very excited for the internship part of the program.  I want to be a doctor, so the clinic internship will be a great tool for me.  I can’t wait to see what they let me do!
