Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Johnny feeling nothing but joy

Hi my name is Johnny Kerins and I am a sophomore business major.

I decided to study abroad in Cape Town because of strong recommendations from the members who went on the trip last year. My cousin Patrick went on the trip last year and was a big advocate for me going. As a business major, many people assume that I am only looking to make a quick buck in life. I want to be a part of something that uses my knowledge and interest in business to help people. Cape Town seemed like the perfect place for me. I feel ecstatic about being accepted to this program. Awaiting the e-mail with the decision for the program was a very nerve-wracking experience. Once I was accepted, however, I felt nothing but joy. It still seems kind of surreal that in only a couple of months I will be in Cape Town, South Africa!
