Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Savannah is excited beyond words

Hi everyone! My name is Savannah and I am an Allied Health major, hoping to go into Nursing.  I am currently a junior here at UConn.  I have heard so many great things about this program, and I am so happy to be going with fellow UConn peers.

I wanted a program where I would be somewhere completely different and unfamiliar.  I want to get as much out of this program as I possibly can, and after leaving our first meeting, it sounds like Cape Town is full of endless opportunities.

I was lucky enough to visit my brother a few years back, and now I am so thankful to be returning on my own to create my own experience.  I think he is secretly more excited for me than I am!  I am especially looking forward to my internship, where I will be working in the health care field.  Although my internship alone will be a learning experience, I am also looking forward to our classes, excursions, and getting to know my classmates.  I am excited beyond words to be apart of this experience and am hoping the rest of this semester flies by!
