Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Emily eager to experinece all Cape Town has to offer

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Block and I am a junior double majoring in political science and human rights. I hope to eventually go into international law or diplomacy. When I was researching the different study abroad opportunities that UCONN offers, Cape Town stood out as the perfect program for me.

As a political science student I had some knowledge of South Africa but it was not until I took a human rights course that I became fascinated by the vibrant culture that persisted through apartheid. I also liked how there was a pre-departure course, which helped to give the experience context as well as the extremely unique internship opportunity.

I have a few friends that have studied abroad there in past trips and they told me all about what an amazing and life changing time they had. They all persuaded me (though it didn’t take much) to apply and I’m so glad I did! I was so excited when I got the email telling me I had been accepted to the program. I had been telling my family and friends for months about how much I wanted to go and to finally have the email confirming it was awesome. I cannot wait to go to Cape Town and experience everything that the city had to offer!
