Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Cassie wants to see what the world has to offer

Hello! My name is Cassie Babcock. I am a senior and my major is Allied Health and I have a minor in Psychology as well.  I plan on going to grad school next fall to get my master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

I only started considering studying abroad about a year ago. I am very excited about being accepted to go to Cape Town this spring!  I have always wanted to experience living in another culture and learning the many things there are to learn.  As great of a campus UCONN has, I just wasn’t going to gain that experience on campus.  I looked into going to London which also sounded like fun but I wanted more than just fun.  I’m going into the health care field because I enjoy helping and teaching people so they can live the best quality of life.  That’s why I thought South Africa would be an amazing experience and opportunity for me.   When I read about the internship the Cape Town program offered I knew this was exactly what I wanted.

I was born and raised in New England between a small town in Connecticut and Block Island, an even smaller town.  I have always had a lot of family close by which I have loved growing up. But for a very long time now I have wanted to travel on my own to see what else the world has to offer.  I’m hoping that South Africa is just my first in many places I get to travel to!
