Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Lauren smiles just thinking about going to Cape Town

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren O'Malley and I am a sophomore here at UConn. I recently declared an Allied Health major, with a concentration in Public Health and Health Promotion.

My sister went on the UConn in Cape Town program in 2011 and I was lucky enough to be able to visit her about halfway through her trip. My sister wasn’t exaggerating – Cape Town really was incredibly beautiful and amazing in so many ways! When looking into the many different study abroad programs that UConn offers and trying to decide where to apply, I purposely looked at the South Africa information last. I wanted to keep an open-mind and consider all the possibilities. But, just like I knew was going to happen, all of the other programs completely flew out of my mind once I clicked on the Cape Town page. My mind was made up, and I was going to apply!

I cannot even describe how excited I was when I found out I was accepted into the program. Even now, I still find myself smiling at random times, whenever it hits me that I am actually going to Cape Town!!! I know that this is going to be an incredible experience for all of us and I cannot wait to see what is in store.
