Welcome to our blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Study Abroad in Cape Town Program can attest, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisiteness of the scenery. Therefore this blog is merely intended to provide an unfolding story of the twenty-six 2014 co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany yet another group of exceptional students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Morgan is pumped to be an intern in Cape Town

Hi everyone! My name is Morgan Turner and I am sophomore majoring in Allied Health Sciences. I hope to one day be a physician's assistant.

I never thought I would be able to fit studying abroad into my schedule, so when my advisor told me I could go abroad in Cape Town, I was ecstatic! The more I heard about the program, the more I wanted to go. Listening to the stories of last spring's students at the info session gave me chills. Everyone I've talked to has said going abroad to Cape Town was the best experience of their life. I haven't traveled much, so I am so unbelievably excited to not just visit, but actually live in a completely different part of the world for a whole semester.

Also, what I really like about this program is the internship component. I am excited to work and to be able to say I accomplished something and made a difference while abroad. As an Allied Health student I am so pumped to intern and gain clinical experience in Cape Town, and to get a glimpse of the healthcare system of another country.

When I saw I was accepted into the program, I was elated! Each day it is becoming more real to me that I am actually going, and that in less than three months, I will have a new place to call home.
